In her introductory remarks, AMLA Chair Bruna Szego reiterated AMLA’s five long-term goals: ambition, cooperation, technology, communication and global leadership. She described AMLA as a “start-up authority” that has already put in place its core governance, staffing and cooperation structures, while simultaneously building the foundations for a unified, risk-based European AML/CFT system.
Szego highlighted the Authority’s immediate priorities for 2026: prioritising level-2 mandates with the biggest impact on industry, preparing for AMLA’s direct supervision from 2028, developing standards and tools to strengthen FIU effectiveness and cross-border cooperation, and building an internal risk-analysis function to steer risk-based approaches at EU and national levels.
The Chair answered questions from MEPs on topics related to high-risk third-country listing, crypto-assets and drug-related money laundering, as well as operational coordination with European law-enforcement agencies, among others.
