Krepšta opened by outlining AMLA's three main pillars: supervision, coordination and support of Financial Intelligence Units, and regulatory tasks. He set the context by highlighting the challenging geopolitical environment facing Europe, including regional conflicts, hybrid threats, and organised criminal networks exploiting new technologies.
The Executive Board Member identified key areas of technological transformation shaping money laundering and terrorist financing risks, including artificial intelligence, blockchain and crypto assets, and digitalisation. He also addressed sanctions evasion and the evolving nature of terrorist financing, noting that funding methods are becoming more diverse and complex.
Krepšta concluded by outlining AMLA's role in addressing these challenges: enhancing the Union's ability to anticipate and assess risks, contributing to a harmonised regulatory framework, strengthening coordination among supervisors and FIUs, and cooperating with European partners including Europol, Eurojust and the EPPO.
