AMLA Executive Board Member Rikke-Louise Petersen delivered a keynote speech at the ACAMS General Assembly in Frankfurt on 12 May 2025, outlining AMLA's progress and priorities for the year ahead.
Petersen reflected on AMLA's development over the past year, noting the Authority had grown from around 30 staff to over 100, with a target of 432 employees by end of 2027. She highlighted work underway on technical standards and guidelines for the Single Rulebook, preparations for direct supervision from 2028, and efforts to build convergence among Financial Intelligence Units.
The Executive Board Member emphasised that financial crime is not defeated by rules alone, but by how consistently and credibly those rules are applied. She outlined AMLA's ambition to establish structured engagement with the private sector and to strengthen information-sharing partnerships.
Petersen called on the audience to engage early and substantively with AMLA's consultations and to prepare for changes in supervision. She noted that new technology reshapes how criminals operate, with artificial intelligence challenging traditional identity verification and customer due diligence processes, while crypto assets, decentralised finance and online platforms create new avenues to launder funds.
