Speaking to FIU Germany staff, Verbeek-Kusters outlined AMLA's priorities in the FIU pillar. She highlighted the development of Joint Analysis for cross-border cases, noting that AMLA is bringing together 27 delegated staff members from national FIUs under one roof. She also pointed to ongoing work on FIU.net as a central platform, the establishment of a support and coordination mechanism for FIUs, peer reviews, harmonised technical standards, and cooperation with European partner institutions.
The Executive Board Member emphasised that AMLA cannot deliver on its mandate alone, stressing the importance of close cooperation with national FIUs. She acknowledged the demands this places on FIU Germany, which has seconded staff to AMLA and actively participates in working groups and General Board meetings.
Verbeek-Kusters outlined three areas where AMLA can support FIUs: serving as a common voice at political and international level, advocating for greater FIU independence including access to adequate personnel, technical and financial resources, and creating unified standards and best practices to support systematic exchange and ensure successful approaches are applied across Europe.
Following the address, Verbeek-Kusters met with Daniel Thelesklaf, Head of FIU Germany, and Dr Armin Rolfink, President of the Generalzolldirektion, to discuss joint analysis, FATF assessments, and FIU Germany's support for AMLA.
